CROSS CANADA MOTORHOME TRIP 2019 – MORE NEW BRUNSWICK

We have a reservation at the ferry but you have to be at the terminal an hour ahead to save your spot.

Here comes our ferry. The ride is 2 1/4 hours but ferry has lots of lounge seating options as well as outside. A beautiful day so we chose outside.

The lady that we camped beside the last couple of nights, Eris, is on the ferry to St. John, so we enjoyed her company throughout the trip.

This is a steelhead salmon fish farm. They come in at 6 inches from a hatchery in Halifax and leave 30 inches. The tide cleans the cages every day and you do not have to pay for the cleaning service. The boat that you see has tubes that attach to the cages and is programmed to blow food in.

When we arrived in St. John we were close to reversing falls, so decided to go there first.

These cormorants would fly a few hundred meters upstream and ride down as the water was moving quickly.
This is pretty close to high tide so water is moving toward the Bay of Fundy
These guys are waiting their turn to go on the water. Very organized, those cormorants

Low tide will see the rapids going the other way. That happens at this time of year about 9:00 at night and 9:00 in the morning. May not make either of those.

We checked in to our campground in Rockwood Park in St. John. They have a series of walking and biking trails, so unpacking the bikes. The inclines on the trails were bigger rocks and gravel, so a little tough to navigate with our folding bikes with the small tires, but a good ride.

Up at the lookout

Nice beaches on the lakes here in the park so, people enjoying the sunshine. It said that it got to 31, but seems a stretch.

We asked about buying firewood for a fire tonight as a nice campground with fire pits and no bugs. A fire ban! Makes sense as they have had two days in a row with no rain now.

Atlantic Salmon, yum
Lobster Roll, and it was all gone, so had to be good. The yam fries, were not all gone, so obviously terrible.
Our restaurant, in the Park, so maybe 1km away. Nice setting for sure.

This guy is Canadian to the core! Tuque, beaver and hockey stick! Wow!

We are heading out early tomorrow to do the Fundy Trail a scenic route and extending northeast a bit to get Hopewell Rocks that we should have visited on our trip thru Northern NB. Tide is early so, early morning to get going.

We reached Hopewell Rocks and this is a busy place as Saturday contributes, I guess

As this article mentions, the tides can come up 46 feet
Looking from above

Now, how do those trees grow up there.
They have some of these areas cordoned off as erosion is making some of theses dangerous

We spent 1 1/2 hours here and although a 2 hour drive, it was well worth it

Our next stop is The Fundy Scenic trails and drive. This drive extends 30 km on a windy road along the coast with tons of stops for lookouts and hiking trails.

Scenery along the coast of The Bay of Fundy

Waterfall on one of the short hikes
Long walk down

Caves on the coast but tide is too high to explore these guys

This suspension bridge spans the Big Salmon River. Atlantic salmon come up this river in the fall to spawn. That would be an awesome site from this bridge to witness.

Weather was perfect today other than fog, high winds and pounding rain late in the day with thunderstorms. We made it to our campground in St. Andrews in pouring rain so no BBQ tonight. We are close to the border, so off to the US of A tomorrow. The campground that we want in Kennebec River, Maine is full, so hopefully we can find something down there for tomorrow night.

That lake looks like the one we had a swim in and we were reprimanded by the lifeguard for too much horsing around on the floating dock. 😄
What a beautiful restaurant so close to the campground. Food looks delicious.
