We are off to Fundy National Park, which is close to the Bay of Fundy and close to the Northumberland Strait. Once we crossed over the Baie des Chaleurs to New Brunswick the landscape changes from small town to small town to forestry on either side thru to our National Park. Missing Gaspe scenery already. We stopped at Magnetic Hill Winery on the way just outside of Moncton. Rhubarb wine, hmmm! Cranberry wine as well.
We had a very nice chat with the owner of this place. We had a nice tasting and bought a few bottles. They had rhubarb wine as well as cranberry that was not too bad. These folks were strawberry farmers and got into wine. By the looks of things wine is better!
Well we missed the history of Magnetic Hill, but Catherine pointed it out. So, to experience Magnetic Hill today, drivers must pay a fee to drive their cars to the end of the road. When a car is placed in neutral, it will begin to roll backwards, apparently uphill.observers will also, note that water in the adjacent drainage ditch seemingly runs uphill. Mentioned in Stomping Tom’s song Cross Canada. We come back into NB to the south. If we have time, we may have a detour!
Fundy Park is very nice but…black flies like crazy. No outside activity tonight
Our stop this morning is Bore Riverfront Park in Moncton to see the tidal bore.
The tidal calendar indicates the bore at 12:53 today so a leisurely morning as Moncton is only an hour away. Fortunately we got to Moncton early as comments on Trip Advisor indicated that we could Park our motorhome in the Park. Hmm, I do not think so, so a street spot and a good walk will take place. Overall, the motorhome has managed well but we have to have the right parking to fit, which often means parking on the street and walking. Ottawa was the worst but it worked out.
We ended up finding a good spot to watch the Bore and had a good chat with a local guy who comes down to watch it often.
The fellow we were chatting with said that if we waited there for an hour the river would fill to near the top of the bank. A long way up. The bore happened within one minute of the published schedule. The natural water flow was west to east and during the bore it changed to east to west at multiple times the speed.
New Brunswick, from what we have seen is a lot of timber. We travel now to PEI but will catch the southern part of New Brunswick after we travel thru Nova Scotia
You never mentioned that your vehicle rolls down an uphill rise at Magnetic Hill 😄
Enjoy the fruit wines!
Hey, did you check out the woman in the red chair?😄😄
That’s really cool! I have never heard of the “bore”, but will definitely add that to our list. Great photos!
